What if the publisher does not allow self-archiving?

What if the publisher does not allow me to deposit the final version in HAL? It all depends on your publishing agreement.

Three alternatives are outlined in the H2020 guidelines on copyright issues:

Alternative 1: Addendum

Mail an addendum with your publishing agreement and a cover letter to your publisher. An addendum is a legal document that modifies the publisher’s agreement and allows you to keep key rights to your articles. Download, fill out, sign and send your publisher:

You may also use the Scholar's copyright addendum engine (Science Commons).

Alternative 2 : Creative Commons (CC) License

Publish your article under a CC-BY license. Contrary to copyright protection, Creative Commons licenses not only protect the author but give users the right to download, copy, distribute and share the article

Crediting the original author is a requirement of all CC licenses.

Alternative 3 : Licence to publish

Publish your article under a license to publish: download, fill out, sign and send your publisher the EC model license.

Alternativement, proposez à l'éditeur de publier votre article sous une licence to publish : téléchargez le modèle de licence proposé par la CE:
en anglais / en français
